Everybody's LJ

Okay, there are currently 147 members of this tribe, but so far nothing much going on here except for a few people posting new threads about their own journals. If all 147 of us do just that... well... would anyone care?

So I'm starting a thread here for people to not just post links to their journals, but to hopefully say a little something about them. It's great that you have an LJ, but why would I want to check it out? There are as many different ways to use LJ as there are LJ users. How do you use yours?

By way of example:

My journal: starchy.livejournal.com

What's there: I post raw writing (mostly fiction) and works in progress, various contemplations of Life In General(tm), your vaguely standard sorts of web-flotsom and web-jetsom, the occasional political rant, and absolutely no quizzes or polls. I'm currently re-posting my travel diaries from Europe, written a few years back, one episode per day.

So, who's next?

    ok i'll go.

    fleagirl.livejournal.com/

i mostly use it as a way to keep in touch with, give and get support from mamafriends of mine scattered about the globe. so it's often talking about my kid, being a single mom, life and whatnot. also, lots of those annoying memes cause they're good ways to take a wee break from work. i can see you shall all be clamoring to get into my friendslist :) my political or social rants are often limited to a handful of snarky lines about whatever is eating away at me that day.

i use mine primarily as a personal journal, not particularly geared towards an audience. i make a fair percentage of private posts. it's probably not of any interest to anyone who doesn't know me.

I set up my journal originally to provide writing practice-- I have a novel in progress (though it's been badly neglected for a few months), and I wanted somewhere that I could write short but vivid descriptions of things I saw in my daily life.

Now I use it for that purpose, as well as a mechanism to keep in touch with people I don't see very often.

I occasionally use it to provoke discussion. Right now the topic is the Ahnold Challenge-- say something positive about Hitler.

(Feel free to contribute if you'd like. It's at whipartist.livejournal.com)

My journal is mostly for me.
It's not geared towards an audience.
As such, while extrapolating on random thoughts, sundry things, or simply regurgitating my days, the imagery I use can be a mix-mash of the follwoing:
    a] proseyish
    b] ambiguous
    c] cryptic
    d] hella boring
    e] hella pretty

Memes + quizzes make me itchy. I never post results.
And about 50% of my posts are friend's only.
  • Re: Everybody's LJ

    Mon, October 6, 2003 - 9:38 AM
My journal is generally a personal one, tending towards allowing me to vent, or occasionally brag about stuff in my life. I also have been known to post stray thoughts that I feel must be propogated, and the results of the occasional meme or quiz that I like.

    I don't think I've posted a friends-only post yet.

    My LJ: http://tsgeisel.livejournal.com.

My LJ has my musings on life. It also has bits and pieces or poetry. I try to post most stuff about my work to my yahoo groups, so most of the LJ is just personal mental musings over 42 :) It is full of colorful descriptions of the current contents of my head; musings about soulmates, conversational equals, heartbreak and more. I don't update it all that often, I have too many other things I am keeping up with. I leave everything public though, and have a link to it from my modeling portfolio site. I utilize it as a tool to let people get inside my head, look around a little, and then decide if they wanna try and hang some art of the walls. It gives me a place to be as funky and elaborate as I want with my speech patterns, and since it is a journal primarily meant for me, no one can complain about my archaic thoughts and speech. :) I love it :) Mine is at myessenseislove.livejournal.com

    My livejournal: aldon.livejournal.com

Mostly personal stuff; minor comments about politics and life in general. I use it a lot to keep in touch with friends from MOOs, the Howard Dean campaign, and family.

Ideally, I would like to have it be more social commentary, but I just haven't really gotten there.

My LJ is for me, of course. Though I also use it to keep my family updated as to what's going on in my life, since we're all really bad about keeping in touch properly.

I almost never post friends-only (unless it's about work, and then only when it's relating to what I do), and the rest of the time, it's me bubbling over with some emotion or other.

I love quizzes and memes, though I don't post them unless I really like the results and think it's something my friends would enjoy.

My journal is located at http://_neonunderworld.livejournal.com , and I rant and rave in my journal. I occasionally post my poetry, short stories, intriguing essays, and my dreams, but those entries are sadly overlooked in favor of my drunken web cam sessions.

Well, I use mine in different ways. I go from writing about my daily activities to complaining about my job to musing about random stuff from my childhood to documenting dreams as best I can to writing indirect messages to friends (in some cases LJ is the only way we keep contact now) or people I don't know at all. I indulge in a quiz or two every now and then. I did my first "photo essay" the other day where I think of 5 random words and then use a search engine to search for pictures relating to each word and then I post them. It may not amount to much but I like it.

I'll never ask "do I look fat in this?" I can be a lot of fun, but I know when to be serious too. I'm far from your average girl, I can spend all afternoon cheering at a volleyball game or wandering the city and then come home and be all dressed up in 20 minutes. I'm really easy going but not to the point where I don't have my own opinions. I love to laugh, and hopefully I can make you laugh until it hurts. It's worth taking a chance to see if I'm what you're looking for.

I have two LJ's, carocrow.livejournal.com and http://crow_quill.livejournal.com and I moderate the nativeamerican community right now.

My personal LJ is just the daily drivel, with a semi regular daily quote that is posted public. My other journal, Crow Quill, is for my writing, and will be used next month for NaNoWriMo.

I'd say, it's easier to check out my interests and my user icons to see what I'm like, or friend me for a while if you like.

My last comment on this thread wasn't very pecific, so here goes another:

My journal is basically a record of anything in my mind at that moment that think is interesting enough to post. Sometimes it's how my day went, sometmes it's weird articles I find online, sometimes it's those funny online quizzes, and sometimes I also post events that are local to me and that I know about.

Again, my username is cassleung2002. So come check it out.

okay, first of all hello everybody..

    my lj is emilyfurrybear.livejournal.com

I started it mainly as a way of keeping a record of my thoughts during hectic times and also so my friends could keep up with what I was doing during those times. It just seemed to make so much more sense than repeating yourself over and over and over to just say - hey! you want to find out what's happening? check out my lj!

It wasn't all good though, as one or two friends were rather shocked at what they read about my antics and kind of dropped out of my life.
  • Re: Everybody's LJ

Well I use mine mostly to keep in touch with friends I don't see often, and to find other folks in California (preferably southern) who are interested in ropework.

I post some of my photography there somtimes, of course right now I need to find new webspace to put it in so I can get it back up.

Funny thing is it originally started in order to keep up with events in The next generation of leather group that meets in Hillcrest

I started mine for a few reasons. I don't know which is the most important:
I thought it might give me a daily (or so) discipline that would encourage me to write elswewhere.
My head is full of useless ephemera and I would like to be free of it.
When I first found the site, I liked being able to view journals randomly and thought maybe someone one day someone might be randomly thrown at mine. I like accident and, to some extent, anonymity.

It's just text with links, I don't upload any photos. I've been going on about Angelina Jolie again recently, but, no, not that way!

      I'm at sarmoung.livejournal.com
  • Re: Everybody's LJ

    Sun, October 26, 2003 - 8:35 AM
My LJ is the place where I write about my self... thoughts, feelings, impressions... every time I have something to say or show, because that is also the place where I post my art. I do have online galleries for my work but I like to have my images in my journal and this way I will always remember that I made "that" image feeling "that certain way"... :) If I don't feel creative I just write down my thoughts and post a couple of snap shoots (<a href="www.koolkam.com">KoolKam2d</a> is helping me with that ) shots that are usually taken while I'm writing in my journal.

So I guess my LJ is about the things that I like to share with my friends :)

    Hello folks!

My LJ is at floof.livejournal.com. It's all for, about and by ME! Hence, "my LJ". ;) But seriously.. I post for myself whether it be to record events, just get something off my chest or to figure out what's going on in my tumbled mind.. it really is all for me. If someone else wants to keep up, I have no problems with that. I never post privately. Once in a blue moon I'll limit a post to certain friends, but that's usually for their privacy, not because I don't want to share.

    I think that's all. :)

What's there: I have many offline journals that i am constantly writing in, so sometimes i dont post and then i will start posting 7 a day.. I tend to put up quizzes in spurts. I delete older journal entries, printing out the better ones for writing ideas. The writings in my journal are usually stream of conscious rants, thoughts im trying to formulate and thoroughly grasp, and i usually dont edit anything.. I am your typical ranting, procrastinating, perfectionist, extremist, depressed, obsessive-compulsive, who thinks im an individual but all i do is sit around and contemplate plath, salinger, osho, my own "abstract" thoughts, trying not to conform or become anything i see, but still do, fighting in hindsight, realizing awareness is needed, but cant quite stand up to myself but refuse to go down with the boat..

My journal has become a way to keep in touch with scattered friends. Most of my friends list is comprised of people I actually know, but only get to see a few times a year.

It has a fair amount of personal ruminations. I rarely make private posts.

I am always shocked when a total stranger wanders in and adds me as a friend. I don't find myself that particularly interesting.

I don't do teh daily update thing. Too much work

I had contemplated an online journal for a long time and then became part of a project where they required it (www.hereandnow.net). I use it solely to write what's on my mind. I try not to reply to comments, post links, pics, etc. In my mind it is like a journal that I would keep offline but I allow people to take a peek in.

I've played with the idea of making it a discussion group of sorts but I think I'd much rather keep that kind of thing on my website. I have used my LJ for announcements and the like but I prefer to use my site or tribe.

I guess, bottom line, my lj is more me offering a glimpse into my thoughts and mind. I try my best to not mince words or what not but inevitably I find myself censoring certain things or wording things somehow differently because I know who does and has read my lj in the past.

    So, anyway, that's it.

      • Re: Everybody's LJ

        Sat, November 15, 2003 - 10:53 AM
I don't know... when there were just 12,000 people on LJ or so, I knew that LJ had the potential to be really big and a pretty important site. Frankly, I'm surprised that it took so long to get as big as it is, but that's because up until around 155,000 users or so, LJ was doubling in size roughly every 40 days... and then the site's performance started sucking majorly because the code and server infrastructure wasn't scalable. Oops...

My core friends on LJ are mostly the same people they were years ago. I add a few every now and then, but it is usually people I meet IRL, because I already have more people to read than I can always comfortably follow. At the same time, I could probably create a new, anonymous account, write about some of my interests I don't write much about lately, and find an entirely new, different group of friends without anyone being the wiser. That's just how big things have gotten on LJ.

    it includes
    *philosophical/theological/spiritual discussions

*astrology and other types of woo-woo
*emotional dumping (oo, gosh, can i read more of that, mom?) -- this tends to be friends-only
*some events and networking and stuff and the obligatory can-i-borrow posts
*a little bit of the what-i-did-today genre, but not much
    *occasional funny-found-on-web stuff

it's probably about 60% public, 40% friends-only, with the public stuff coming back into vogue more as i distance myself from my ex.

Sometimes I use my LJ (which is www.livejournal.com/users/oakenguy/ , by the way) as a way to jot down those little floating ideas that strike me during the day. Sometimes I talk about my performances, or bizarre things that're going on around me, or ideas that excite me. (I think the longest post I ever made was about the discovery of a prehistoric buffalo-sized guinea pig, to give you some idea of the sort of thing I like to write about.) You're all welcome to check it out.

    Anyhow, good to meet you!
  • My LiveJournal.

I've had a LiveJournal since April 2000. My LJ is at apriljoy.livejournal.com -- it's friends only at the moment. I use my LJ to post events/things that either involve details about my close family or anything work related. I post to my site journal (www.8pril.com/journal/) on a daily basis. Both my LJ and site journal don't delve into anything deep. They're simply what goes on in my day, photos I've taken, and some TMI (although I've been doing very good about not sharing as much).

LJ is my space to write locked entries. I add almost anyone who adds me if they let me know they've added me. I like reading journals similar to mine, day in the life ones. I also like those who post photos because I like to look at pictures. Told ya I'm not deep. Heh.

    My journal is: wyldkyss.livejournal.com

Most of my writing in the journal is free form rambling of this 24 year old chick's daily happenings, and very little of those annoying cut and paste quizes. There's the every popular TMI filter, and its how I keep up with not only old friends from the Gothic Cathedral WBS chat room from years ago, but also newer friends, like AKON goers.

This should give you some idea.
    Part of My Bio:

If one day I must go, if someday I am forced to leave the scene of history, I will slam the door behind me so hard that the universe will shake and mankind will stand back in stupefaction.

The above quote was shown to me by a friend, and I immediatly adopted it as my own. To me, this should be life. Dont just make a noise, shake down the heavens. Dont just speak your mind, move others to hope, to tears, to life and light. Dont just walk through life and survive it, live it, relish it, devour it whole. Make everyone recall your smile, your warmth, or even, if appropriate, your wrath. Dont just survive this life, make a swath through it even the gods will see and bow down before in awe. And when you leave, make sure the memories you leave behind are those you would want others to have. Shake the heavens, make people stand back in stupification. Make this life your bitch and make it beg for mercy. And then when you are done, make it beg some more.

    And live.

    Who am I?

I am chaos incarnate, I swear I am. Anywhere I go, I seem to stir things up without even trying. Dont believe me? Go here. I am pagan and damn proud of the fact, and I am not a light-hearted white-lighter, I do my magic like I do my life, down, dirty, dark, and just a little crazy. I am an innately sexual being, to the point even I worry about it sometimes. I warn you now, if sexual thoughts or cuss words or any adult situations offend you, leave this journal immediatly and find your entertainment here instead.

I am as honest as I can be, if I say it, I generally mean it, and I dont play games. I try to be honorable when I can, or clean up my messes honorably when I have fallen, and I am a good friend and powerful fighter to have in your corner. I am confused a little and get lost a lot, and I make no apologies for being human and sometimes fallible and sometimes tempestous and sometimes wrong, but I can honestly say I have always tried my best. Always.

Content: Friends only - ranting, whining, absurd anecdotes about my day, sporadic quizzes & memes (not too much tho, just ones that catch my eye), pieces of putting the puzzle of life together, and sporadically pieces of art I work on.

About half of the journal is friends only, as I get into some crazy melodrama and occasional debauchery now and then. I thoroughly detest online quizzes and do my best to avoid them completely.

Well, you can find mine at www.livejournal.com/users/one_auto_one - as for what goes on in there...

Erm, yeah, that would be the things I write, when I choose to write them. No quizzes, no names, no sense to it all. I'm a fairly regular poster, sometimes three-five times a day; writing all about my boring life, and whatever cracked out idea I've got at the moment to entertain myself.

Sometimes I write software to write my entries for me, sometimes I write software to tell me what I should write, sometimes I just transcribe the words floating around in the air.

It's a journal, more or less, to be painfully redundant.

I am Inkshadow on live journal.

I started mine originally to keep track of two friends who had one. Then I got hooked.
I post all kinds of stuff. Lots of entries detailing my daily life, particularly a lot of bitching about my work. Occasionally I rant, occasionally I write a bit of poetry (don't EVEN judge until you've read it!). My LJ has become more of a social situation too since I've made a lot more friends on there and invited some friends as well. A couple friends of mine debate issues through our LJ's.
I was having fun with quizzes for a while...now I'm burnt out on it.
And I sometimes just get on there and write whatever stream-of-consciousness crap comes to my mind.
The tone of my journal is often cocky, loudmouthed, sexually explicit, passionate, caustic, trashy and...according to some of my friends who read faithfully...very funny. I try to make fun of myself, and if I've discovered something shitty about myself, I will use LJ as a confessional. I have been told that I am a great writer, especially when I'm all worked up over something, and, since I am aware that I do have a regular audience, I do tend to write as though I'm talking to you.

    It's www.refinedbeauty.com/JetSet.htm (or refinedbeauty.livejournal.com/)

I am an international escort, and often talk about places I've visited or plan to visit in the near future. For obvious reasons, I do not post any details of my travels and you will not find any mention of places and locations that could be linked to me or my clients. my journal is pretty boring most of the time with the occassional political or philosophical rant. I started it as a means of keeping track of the days since I have a horrible memory. Secondary was as a means for my friends to see inside my head, since I'm a pretty isolated person emotionally and don't really let them in on what's going on with me. I felt they deserved better, and I deserved a place in which I felt comfortable ranting about my life. anyways, you're all welcome to take a peek if you want. I can't gurantee you'll really want to stick around.

Man, what *is* my LJ about? The public posts tend to be very impersonal--mainly links, funny stuff and news items I come across and the occasional mini-essay. I subscribe to some excellent syn feeds, so that's where I get a lot of my stuff.

There are a lot of friends only posts--not that it's a big deal, I just like to keep track of who's reading what. Besides, I figure there aren't many strangers reading my journal anyway, just the people subscribed to it. I will happily friend back--new people are fun. I should also note that I am good about lj-cuts when a post is not short and sweet (I think).

    You will see:

    silly quips
    spiritualism & occultism
    human nature
    dreams
    quotes
    anxiety
    only the better poems, infrequently
    bi-polyness
    griping, sometimes humorous
    insights
    procrastinating
    sustainable gardening
    do-gooderism

I also have a very cool friend's page, though I have to read it through filters because otherwise The Agonist (very informative feed) clutters it up. I highly recommend lots of the people on my friends page.

And I am a glutton for comments, which assuage my existential loneliness.

I admit that I do not post often, but when I do it is always something special to me. my journal mainly consists of my own photography that is usually (but not always) of myself which is due to self discovery and exploration. with a recent loss of words, my photos seem to have taken their place and if you have a good eye you will be able to see what it is that I am trying to say through them. this is definitely not an "Oh, look at me. I am beautiful!" type of journal. on occasion I like to put in a a few words, alone or with the photo to add an extra touch, but even so it has been some time since I have used words alone.

there are many sides to me, some of which people haven't been capable of capturing yet, but I curiously await those who can.

I am a humble lover of innocence, people, free spirits, ambulating and most of all, love itself.
